Her work includes everything from horror to young adult fantasy and she has never met a genre she didn\u2019t like. A prolific producer of short stories and novels alike, Natasha currently has over twenty five titles in her back catalogue with further releases always imminent.<\/p>\n<p>Natasha has been writing since she was a young girl ever since she read The Hobbit at Primary School. She is a big fan of science fiction, fantasy and horror in all their forms and is a big advocate of fanfiction as a great tool for writers to polish their skills in a welcoming and supportive community.<\/p>\n<p>Before establishing Wittegen Press with her twin sister, Sophie Duncan, Natasha was a database and systems consultant. It's all about vids now.<br><br>Now Kate gives a very\ncomprehensive method for creating the vids in Canva, but it uses functions of\nCanva which are part of the purchased packages. Now, since I already have Adobe\n(which I use for many things), I do not want to have to pay for two packages, so\nI decided to try and figure out the most efficient way of doing it in Adobe.<br><br>Unfortunately\nthis is not as easy to automate in Premiere Pro as\n<a href=\"https:\/\/tashasthinkings.blogspot.com\/2025\/05\/batch-saving-layers-from-photoshop.html\">doing slides was in Photoshop<\/a>. This is where it becomes obvious that all Adobe products are not made equal,\nwhat is easy in one is not easy in another. This YouTube video gives a detailed\nrundown of how to\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_7BbPxSbZ4M?si=Srup7t8NzA6d53K8\">import information from a CSV file into Photoshop to create many datasets of\n  the same layout with different word content<\/a>.<br><br><b>BUT we can\u2019t do this in Premiere Pro.<\/b> One option is to create text\nPNGs with transparent background in Photoshop using variable and datasets and\nthen importing those into Premiere Pro to overlay the background video. This is\nperfectly valid, but there is a little faffing to do in Photoshop (repositioning\ntext, adding back in first \u201c if using dialog because it loses it on the import\netc). Only having to faff in one application is better, and having the text\neditable in Premiere Pro in case of a mistake is much better. <br><br>So we\nhave to go around the houses. My solution requires the following steps:<br>\n<ol>\n  <li>Create text content in Excel<\/li>\n  <li>Export the content to individual CSV files<\/li>\n  <li>Convert the CSV files into SRT files<\/li>\n  <li>Import the SRT files into Premiere Pro<\/li>\n  <li>Edit the captions so they show in the manner we wish them to show.<\/li>\n  <li>Create vids<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>1. Create Text Content in Excel<\/h1>We can use any editor that allows us to output to CSV, I use Excel because\nI have Office 365. Google Sheets or Open Office should work just as well, but I\nhave not used them, so cannot vouch for them.<br><h3>1.1 Format for Each Excel\nSheet<\/h3>Each sheet should have 3 columns (no headers):<ol><li>Start time (00:00:00:00) \u2013 where we want the text to start in the timeline<\/li><li>End time (00:00:00:00) \u2013 where we want the text to end in the timeline<\/li><li>Text content<\/li><\/ol>We are basically creating all the information needed in\nan SRT file.\n<br><\/div><div><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEiR4YEcy9TOf-7QH7lcnp88xCIXJ2HF02dZdjZR3NkKtDL3wze7LaTWo0Cy4LqCBGtSeTqVMMRKTAA03Ot69OEP1PXTAfYz72zYGg0ZyB2_FJKgpZm1O1ptvnPdVutUjJ1qZ6RQjnsKm-xJ5vEBOIeeaUIhqYm4sYqU3XR77cXl0Cb1VJslMM_JfwuJ8S8\/s381\/Excel%20Format.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2 Columns of numbers and one column of text in an excel sheet\" border=\"0\" height=\"196\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEiR4YEcy9TOf-7QH7lcnp88xCIXJ2HF02dZdjZR3NkKtDL3wze7LaTWo0Cy4LqCBGtSeTqVMMRKTAA03Ot69OEP1PXTAfYz72zYGg0ZyB2_FJKgpZm1O1ptvnPdVutUjJ1qZ6RQjnsKm-xJ5vEBOIeeaUIhqYm4sYqU3XR77cXl0Cb1VJslMM_JfwuJ8S8\/w320-h196\/Excel%20Format.jpg?resize=320%2C196&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"320\"><\/a><br><\/div><div>Format of the CSV file<br><\/div><div><h3>1.2 Create a Sheet\nfor Each Set of Text<\/h3>Unlike Kate\u2019s method, we have to have each set\nof text on a different sheet in the workbook. The easiest way to do this is:<br><ol><li>Create the first sheet.<\/li><li>Make a copy of the first sheet.<\/li><li>Change the name of the new sheet to something sensible.<\/li><li>Edit the\ntext in the new sheet.<\/li><li>Rinse and repeat until we have as many sets\nof text as we need.<\/li><\/ol><h1>2. Export the content to individual CSV files<\/h1><\/div><div>Now\nthe easiest, but slower method to do this the following (the methods in other spreadsheet programs may be slightly different):<br><ol><li>Open the\nworkbook<\/li><li>Go to the sheet to export<\/li><li>Go to File &gt;\nExport &gt; Change File Type<\/li><li>Choose CSV and save<\/li><\/ol>The\nonly problem with this in Excel is that it messes with seeing the original\ndocument because CSVs can only cope with one sheet of data, so it can be a right\npain. The filenames will be: FilenameoftheExcelSheet_Nameofthesheet.csv \u2013\nso name the sheets something sensible.<\/li><\/ol><h1>3. Convert the CSV files to\nSRT<\/h1>This is the easiest part, there is a free tool by GoTranscript to\ndo this.<ol><li>Go to this website:\n<a href=\"https:\/\/gotranscript.com\/subtitle-converter\">https:\/\/gotranscript.com\/subtitle-converter<\/a><\/li><li>Click Upload and\nchoose all the CSV files<\/li><li>Choose \u201cSubRip (.srt)\u201d from the Select\nFormat menu<\/li><li>Click convert and save the zip files it gives you to\nyou harddrive.<\/li><li>Unzip the zip file and there are all your srt files\n\u2013 one for each set of text.<\/li><\/ol><h1>4. Import the SRT files into Premiere\nPro<\/h1><\/div><div>In our Premiere Pro project we can drag and drop the srt file of\nchoice into the media list. Then drop it onto our timeline. Premiere Pro will\nconvert our srt file into captions that we can edit to our hearts content.<br><br>This\nAdobe vid gives lots of info on how to do this: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/giM_OVboC38?si=FwPyhy4fhi_hz53a\" target=\"_blank\">How to Edit Captions in PremierePro<\/a>.<h1>5. Edit the captions so they show in the manner we wish them to\nshow.<\/h1>The only problem with captions in Premiere Pro is they can only\nhave a max of 2 lines. When we are creating text for vids like this, we often\nwant more than 2 lines. So we have to make them graphics.<br><ol><li>Select\nall the captions<\/li><li>Go to \u201cGraphics and Captions\u201d in the main top\nmenu<\/li><li>Select \u201cUpgrade Captions to Graphics\u201d<\/li><\/ol>Now all our\ncaptions are text boxes.<br><br>This Adobe vid talks all about text boxes\nand how to edit them: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6_L3P7PopBg?si=8leanUfgOXR_zQHO\" target=\"_blank\">How to Add Text to Videos in Premiere Pro<\/a>.<br><br>We\ndon\u2019t need to add text because we\u2019ve already done it, but it talks all about\nediting text as well.<h1>6. Creating the Vid<\/h1>Now we have our\ntext we can put anything we want behind it.<br><ol><li>Make sure the text is\non the top most layer.<\/li><li>Drag and drop our vid background into a\nlayer under the text.<\/li><li>Make sure the vid is the right length.<\/li><li>Add in a music track if required (<a href=\"https:\/\/incompetech.com\/music\/royalty-free\/music.html\" target=\"_blank\">Incompetech <\/a>has some great royalty free music)\n\u2013 if posting to TikTok, use their music, but YouTube, Insta etc having music\nalready on there stops the hassle.<\/li><li>Export the vid.<\/li><\/ol>Because\nwe can turn Premiere Pro layers on and off at will, we can load up one project\nwith many sets of text and backgrounds and then just mix and match as\nrequired.<h1>7. Summary<\/h1>Is it easier in Canva \u2013 <b>yes most\nprobably<\/b>.<br><br>Kate is a very savvy lass and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alynedigital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">her courses<\/a> have lots of\nuseful information, so go check her out if you are an author struggling with\nsocial media (her TikTok course is mind blowing). It involves posting TikTok slideshows with significant scenes from a book to get readers hooked, and make them want to buy the book.<\/p><p>She has many YouTube vids about it, so if you want all the details check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@KateAlyne\" target=\"_blank\">her channel<\/a>.<\/p><p>This post is simply a cheat sheet of everything I have learned through trial and error about posting slideshows on TikTok and what a pain in the proverbial it is! Please be aware there are many other ways to do it, but this is the easiest for what I have available.<\/p><p>Each slideshow should have between 25-35 slides for Kate's process - so it takes some work to get everything ready.<\/p><div>As Kate points out, TikTok does not mind word content being repeated, as long as something significant changes in each slideshow. For us this means changing the background and the music on each slideshow. The same scene can be used over and over again because TikTok has such a large audience it could be any instance of it that catches attention.<\/div><div><br><\/div><div><h3><u>Choose the Backgrounds<\/u><\/h3><\/div><div>The first thing I do is go and find my backgrounds. The following sites are really good for royalty free, free to use images:<\/div><div><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Unsplash <\/a>- just make sure to select the free licence option<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pexels.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pexels <\/a>- has stills and vids<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pixabay <\/a>- just watch out for the AI created content which is usually tagged<\/li><\/ul><\/div><div>Search for topics close to the theme of your book and choose the aesthetically pleasing ones. We don't want to misrepresent our books to our audience because then those seeing it won't buy it, so go with the right genre.<\/div><div><blockquote><b>N.B.<\/b> <i>Kate mentions to avoid having people in the pictures because sometimes the TikTok algo can misconstrue what it is seeing, especially with romance titles and shadow ban the slideshow<\/i>.<\/blockquote><p>Having all my background chosen before I begin putting the slides together makes it a much faster process.<\/p><h3><u>Choose the Music<\/u><\/h3><div>Each slideshow needs different music, so I go to the \"Unlimited Sounds\" library in TikTok Studio and hunt out the tunes that feel like they go with the scenes I have chosen. I have no idea if TikTok would object if I did, but I prefer not to take chances.<\/div><\/div><h3><u>Create the Slides<\/u><\/h3><div>Each slide has between 10 and 15 words except for the first one which is a hook slide rather than part of the chosen scene.<\/div><div><br><\/div><div>I've created myself a base file in Photoshop with has pre-numbered layers for all the text, and I place my chosen image at the bottom as the background.<\/div><div><br><\/div><div>Then using the script I found and have written its own post about -\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tashasthinkings.blogspot.com\/2025\/05\/batch-saving-layers-from-photoshop.html\" target=\"_blank\">How to Batch Save Layers in Photoshop<\/a>\u00a0- I save all the text layers with the same background.<\/div><div><blockquote><b>#1 Note:<\/b> <i>There is also a plugin for Gimp that can be used to get a similar output: <a href=\"https:\/\/kamilburda.github.io\/batcher\/\" target=\"_blank\">Batcher<\/a>. And I am sure there must be a way of doing it in Canva, but I'm afraid I do not know what it is.<\/i><\/blockquote><h3><u>Change Create and Modified Dates of Slides<\/u><\/h3><p><b>This is optional,<\/b> but it saves me a lot of time when creating the slideshows on TikTok, so I am sharing it. TikTok does not allow sorting by name, only but created\/modified date when adding files to a slideshow, so I use this method to make sure I can do it inside TikTok if I need to for any reason (I don't often - you'll see why later, but I still do this on the off chance since it takes seconds).<\/p><p>What I have found when copying files from Windows to my phone to upload to TikTok is that getting them in the right order is a headache, and flipping around to add them in the correct order for a slideshow takes forever if they are out of sequence. You can edit before you copy and paste the code, or in Powershell, if you paste then hit the up arrow and then left and right arrows you can navigate to the right place in the code to edit it in situ.<\/b><\/p><h3><u>Upload the Files to the Phone<\/u><\/h3><div>My phone is Android - I can only assume Apple gives you a way to do this too, but I'm afraid Apple products mystify me.<\/div><div><ol><li>First of all - use a USB and open your phone so you can see the file system. It is the safest and quickest way.<\/li><li>Zip your slideshow into one file. If you do not do this, all the files will be copied over in a random order and the changing file times you did above will be worthless.<\/li><li>Copy the zip file to your phone in a sensible place so you can find it again.<\/li><li>Open \"My Files\" on the phone.<\/li><li>Click on the zip file and choose the extract option.<\/li><li>Now all your files are on the phone in the right order for addition to TikTok.<\/li><\/ol><div><blockquote><b>#2 Note<\/b> - <i>If you have Windows and Android, using \"<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/topic\/phone-link-requirements-and-setup-cd2a1ee7-75a7-66a6-9d4e-bf22e735f9e3\" target=\"_blank\">Phone Link<\/a>\" is so much easier for the next parts. Just remember to activate \"Cross device copy and paste\" in the Settings&gt;Features, for ease of use.<\/i><\/blockquote><\/div><h3><span><u>Creating the Slideshow<\/u><\/span><\/h3><div><span>As I mentioned above, you can create the slideshow inside the TikTok ap, but this is the slow way. Hence we have to come back and post our drafts when the time comes. This is annoying, but only takes one click.<\/i> <b>HOWEVER - do not delete any files from your phone until your draft is posted - TikTok does not upload anything until you post it it is only saved on your phone.<\/b><\/blockquote><b><\/b><\/div><\/li><\/ol><div>There are some services that allow you to schedule slideshows, but I tried a few and they either don't have certain options, or the free ones only allowed me to upload 10 slides. I would suggest checking them out yourself if you wish to go that route.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>And that is it - slideshows uploaded to TikTok. I am sure there are other, probably more efficient ways to do it, especially if you have specialist software to upload, but this is the way I do it and it now takes me a minute or two to upload rather than forever. more.<\/li><\/ul><div>This takes what can be a 15 min job:<br><ol><li>turning on the right foreground layer,<\/li><li>exporting the layer with the background<\/li><li>rinse and
